Europe’s longest running and most prestigious tournament is headed back to Ireland this coming spring. The €3,200+ €300 2011 Irish Open will take place from Apr. 22-25 inside the Burlington Hotel in Dublin.

This year things get even deeper with the initial stack up from 10,000 to 20,000 chips. Plus, the event will once again feature a €100,000 Sole Survivor promotion, meaning that the longest lasting qualifier in the event will win €100,000 in addition to any prize money.

The Irish Open is the oldest running poker tournament in Europe and second longest in the world after the World Series of Poker.

First made possible in 1981 by a well known Irish bookmaker Terry Rogers, the tournament has seen a ton of growth. Last year a record 708 players showed up to see the UK’s James Mitchell take down the title and €600,000 first prize.

The field was filled with top pros including Dan Harrington, Sandra Naujoks, Brian Townsend, Kara Scott, and former Irish open winners Marty Smyth and Neil Channing.

WSOP is one of the most anticipated poker events by players all throughout the world. ESPN covered Day 7 last Tuesday and see how 78 players went down to just Theo Jorgensen, who dominated the whole event.

Here are some of the event’s highlights. The very first guy eliminated on the Day 7 was Jean-Robert Bellande. On the other hand, Eduardo Parras was able to win over his two opponents with his aces at hand. Tony “Bond18” Dunst won over Hasan Habib with his pocket queens.

The feature table has William Thorson and Matt Affleck fight each other on felt. This game was dominated by William Thorson after rising to two million. This is something that Affleck will remember as he cut down a third part of his stack.

As you look online, you’ll find other events and shows by tuning to ESPN. For 2010 WSOP, just tune in every 9 PM ET to be updated of its Main Event.

As reported in the Wicked Chops Poker, past Full Tilt Poker employee Jason “JDN” Newitt was summoned by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York that was set today. The issue started in September 2009 Newitt filed a suit against Full Tilt Poker, Pocket Kings, and the Tiltware accusing that, “he was unfairly fired and that his distribution payments were unfairly ceased. Defendants then took control of his ownership.”

In connection with the issue, Steve “Chops” Preiss of Wicked Chops said, “In general, subpoenas are not overly specific in nature. It’s no secret the DoJ has been investigating the online poker industry, and when J.D. Newitt sued Full Tilt Poker bonus, he certainly opened himself up for some follow-up from the government. We simply won’t know if the subpoena is specifically targeting Full Tilt Poker or part of a larger and broader investigation of online poker until after the fact.”

Talking about the online poker, Preiss also stated, “This certainly isn’t ‘good for poker.’ But it might not necessarily be bad either. The DoJ has been consistent in their efforts in going after payment processors instead of site operators, and this is potentially just an exploratory measure on their part.”

Dean Hamrick is now a part of WSOP bracelet winners as he bags his first ever WSOP event this 2010 while he settled in the tenth place in the 2008 in the main event. This year Hamrick headed the Event #42 or the $1,500 no-limit hold’em event.

When he fall short in the 2008, he was noted as the bubble boy of the final table, it was a great achievement for Hamrick. However, his win in the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is considered as a lifetime accomplishment.

In the said event, he conquered a field of 2,521 players and cash in $604,222. Coming next to him was Thomas O’Neal with $375,627 cash and taking the third spot was Ian Wiley with a total of $265,869.

It is somewhat a perfect accomplishment for Hamrick because everyone aims to have WSOP title. Although he is not lucky enough from his previous poker adventure, the 2010 WSOP gave way to his ideals. You too can get your first ever WSOP bracelet if you try to reach out in some online poker room that offers free seats for the WSOP. It can be your once in a lifetime opportunity to play with your favorite poker pros.
